Stand With Us
I ask you to stand together with me for another four years so we can complete our mission.
Some of my goals for the next four years include:
- Improve the delivery of police services to reduce crime including prostitution, robberies, and homicides. I want District 5 to be the safest district in all of Oakland. Together we can do it.
- Deliver even more children's services and after school programs like soccer to provide our children opportunities to engage in positive activities. Improve our school and park facilities so they are safe, clean and show our children that we care.
- Complete our waterfront trail, and create jobs and housing along our waterfront, surrounded by open space and public art.
- Bring more retail to Oakland so residents don't have to shop in Alameda, Emeryville, or San Leandro.
- Bring more jobs to Oakland by establishing job campuses in some of our under-utilized and blighted industrial lands.
What We Have achieved
- We built three new schools and relieved one of the worst cases of school over-crowding in the State of California • We built the first viable transit village in the Bay Area, which has become a model for other cities and neighborhoods in Oakland
- We revitalized our business districts in the Fruitvale, taking them from having 50% empty, blighted storefronts, to an almost 0% vacancy. We now have the second most successful businesses district in Oakland. • We improved Park Boulevard, adding landscaping and traffic control measures on an on-going effort to increase pedestrian safety and create a great shopping experience.
- We brought in some of the only large retail outlets in all of Oakland with the Home Depot and 24 hour Fitness.
- We shut down or improved over a dozen problematic liquor selling establishments, turning them into neighborhood assets.
- We cleaned up over two dozen open-air drug dealing corners, streets, or intersections, and closed down numerous drug houses.
- We created one of the most effective after school programs in the City at Cesar Chavez Education Center, and expanded youth programs at Jose De La Cruz Park, Cesar Chavez Park, and Peralta Hacienda Park.
- And we built one of the only parks built in Oakland in the last 15 years--Union Point Park on the Waterfront.
